Boathouse and Facilities

Boathouse Manager:  Doug Barker

Our boathouse is on Island MetroPark in the Great Miami River, just north of downtown Dayton. The entire island is a beautifully maintained park, operated by Five Rivers MetroParks, which provides an idylic setting for rowing. We share the island with a popular public park on the northern half and a water rescue squad on the southern half, where we are.

The boathouse was built in 1995 and provides basic boat storage for GDRA's Adult and Junior programs and for UD's collegiate program. Storage was expanded with the addition of a fenced boatyard and roofed area in 2003.

We have 130 feet of rowing docks that we built with volunteer labor in 1998. See the dock page for info about that project. Most of the dock comes out of the water on the weekend before Thanksgiving and goes back in around March 1. We always leave enough dock in the water for an eight to launch, though it freezes in place for a few weeks most winters...
